Attending primary school in his native Latvia, which was part of the Soviet Union at that time, Boris Goldstein quickly gained acceptance in specialized schools for children gifted in English and mathematics. He proved adept in writing, software code and worked with a programmer for several years while attending college at Rigas Tehniska Universitate. Throughout his tenure in this position, he remained committed to his academic pursuits, ultimately earning a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Mathematics and a Master of Business Administration. In 1989, the Soviet government implemented sweeping new reforms that included allowing private citizens to own businesses. Boris Goldstein registered one of the first private companies in the nation, Software House HT. The high-technology business employed 14 software designers who developed programs for banks, trading desks, and other financial enterprises. During its first year of operation, Software House HT garnered more than $1 million in profits. In later years, the organization embarked on the manufacture and distribution of hardware as a complement to its thriving software business.
